National Standard
Curriculum: First Responder -
www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/ems/pub/frnsc.pdf
This is the
‘national’ USA standard. You need to read the
‘statewide’ Penna. statewide protocols (below)
Pennsylvania
Statewide
Basic Life Support Protocols
:
http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/lib/health/ems/bls_protocols_2004.pdf
Note: There are specific DIFFERENCES between
EMT-B and First Responder listed on these protocols ... please familiarize
yourself with these differences. The EPA region is attempting to get ‘pocket
versions’ of the ‘protocols’ into the hands of all who make application to this
program.
Please download and READ the protocols as
they are your JOB DESCRIPTION as a FIRST RESPONDER.
Current Pennsylvania Good Samaritan Law

Note: this is a
‘consolidated’ website and we take no responsibility for its accuracy, etc.
You will note that all references are for
personnel who are in a ‘non-duty to respond situation’, etc.
For exact clarification, we suggest that you
consult your own personal attorney.
First Responders and other PA EMS certified
personnel are ‘covered’ under a separate Law (the EMS ACT, Act 45) see below.
Pennsylvania “EMS Act” – Act 45
The current PA “EMS Act”
will be revised and reissued soon.**
From ACT45 .. the "EMS ACT":
"(2) No first responder, emergency medical technician or EMT- paramedic or
health professional who in good faith attempts to render or facilitate emergency
medical care authorized by this act shall be liable for civil damages as a
result of any acts or omissions, unless guilty of gross or willful negligence
