Passing of Roos
I'm sorry to share this sad news with everyone via
email.... George Roos (former member of Mountain Creek Ski Patrol) lost his
wife, Agnes Roos, last Friday. The family is having a memorial service on
Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church,
Berkeley Heights.
For those of you who want to send a card to George, he is in Runnel's
Hospital in Berkely Heights. George suffered a stroke two years ago and has
been under their care ever since. I am sure he would love to hear from some
of his friends from the patrol. Some of you may remember Agnes, who
volunteered with the patrollers, in helping Special Olympics NJ winter games
at mountain creek for many years.

ROOS Agnes Roos, first-aider,
grew prize orchids, 79 Mrs. Agnes H. Roos (nee Hartsch), 79, of
Berkeley Heights passed away in King James Care Center, Chatham, on
Friday, June 22, 2007. The memorial service will be held on
Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian
Church, Berkeley Heights. Arrangements are by the Paul Ippolito
Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights. For more

www.ippolitofuneralhomes.com . Mrs. Roos was born on Aug. 14,
1927. She was one of 11 children born to Theodor and Anna Hartsch on
their family farm in Wittenbach, Switzerland. Mrs. Roos attended
formal schooling until she began apprenticing as a dressmaker from
1945 to 1947. She then worked as a dressmaker in Zurich,
Switzerland, from 1949 to 1952. In 1952, she moved to New York City,
where she worked as a dressmaker in the fashion district. In 1958,
she married George Roos and together they moved to East Orange and
then, in 1962, to Berkeley Heights, where they have resided since.
Agnes was an accomplished orchid grower and a member of the North
Jersey Orchid Society, from which she won many awards for her
beautiful orchids. From 1975 to 1992, Mrs. Roos served as a
volunteer member of the Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad. Agnes learned
to ski at the age of 41 and joined the Montclair Ski Club in
Montclair. She enjoyed many winters on the slopes of Mad River Glen,
Vt. She was also a regular volunteer at the New Jersey Special
Olympics Winter Games. Agnes was also an avid swimmer and was a
member of the Berkeley Swim School in Berkeley Heights. Agnes was
the beloved wife of George Roos of Berkeley Heights; loving mother
of Andrew Roos and his wife, Sandra, of Chatham Borough; dear
grandmother of Madison, Dylan, Kristian and Winston Roos, and sister
of Hedy Lion of Park Ridge, Hildegard Swirski of New York City and
Anna Popp, Pia Wursch, Agi Deiner, Elisabeth Hartsch, Alice Oehler,
Emma Scherrer and Theodor Hartsch, all of Switzerland. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations in her name to the Berkeley Heights
Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 117, Berkeley Heights, N.J. 07922.
