Alpine Mountain - course number is 11790
We are planning a OEC course
(Outdoor Emergency Care) at Alpine Mountain ski area starting August 05, 2006.
Classes are planed to be held every
Saturday from 10:00 - 17:00.
Class time will consist of a
minimum of 80 hours.
Home study will also be required in the amount of 40 - 60 hours.
It is recommended that you have a broadband internet connection. All course
communication will be via email. Several lesson plans require internet access to
educational websites.
Students will be required to
purchase OEC Manual, Workbook, Patroller Manual, and course administrative fee.
During the course the student will also be required to make up a patrol first
aid pack to be used during the class hands on training portion.
This course is open to all. Class
size will be limited to the first 25 students that sign up.
If you have persons interested in joining ski patrol, or a mountain employee
that would benefit by this certification, this will be the course to take to get
them started for next season. We are planning course completion by December in
time for the upcoming ski season.

If you have OEC Instructors or
Instructor Candidates, please have them contact me so we can post a teaching
schedule. Each class will be staffed by a minimum of two instructors. The lesson
plans will be posted one month prior to the beginning of the course for
instructor planning and review.
If you would like to become an OEC
Instructor, please contact me so I can prepare your paperwork and get you
started. Email me your request and I will discuss the details required for the
OEC Instructor course.

OEC Challenge
Course at Big Boulder - This is to announce an OEC challenge course
that will be offered:
May 14 & 15, 2005, at Big Boulder Ski Resort, Limited to 20 people.
The 14th will be a review day, covering topics not common to outside EMS
personnel. It will also review important course material and let potential
candidates practice there skills before the test on the 15th. The 14th will be
approximately 8 hours starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 4. Those wishing to
recertify in CPR may due so after 4 o'clock. You will be allotted an hour break,
and then will be asked to return for about a 3 hour CPR refresher. The 15th will
be the actual written and practical examinations. This is the day of the actual
challenge. Anyone who is interested in being a patient, or anyone who is an
instructor, and interested in helping please contact me via e-mail or cell
phone, which is listed below.
Who may challenge the course: Any individual who is certified at the
EMT-B level or higher may challenge the course. Individuals who are certified as
:EMT-B's, Paramedics, RN's, PHRN's, PA's, and Physicians may all challenge the
course. Others with applicable knowledge and experience in EMS may challenge at
the discretion of the IOR or course coordinator. You must be at least 15 years
of age to challenge, and have written parental consent if not 18 years of age or
older.
***NOTE: Those who wish to challenge the course should include
a copy of their certification and current CPR. PLEASE NOTE THAT
ANYONE CHALLENGING THIS COURSE MAY ONLY DO SO ONCE. IF YOU ARE NOT DEEMED
SUCCESSFUL, THEN YOU MUST TAKE THE ENTIRE COURSE AT A LATER DATE. ALSO ALL
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AFFILIATED WITH A PATROL.***
Course Fee: The course fee is currently 35 dollars. (note this
price is only an estimate, It may go up slightly or down slightly)
Deadlines: Deadline to register is may 9th. Fees will be
collected on the 14th or by prior arrangement with the IOR or Course
Coordinator.
Participants Course of Action:
- Affiliate with a patrol
- Register by May 9th( You may due this by e-mailing me at

Include your Name, Address, Telephone Number, Date of Birth, Affiliated Patrol,
Certification, and indicate somewhere if you will need a CPR Recert.
- It is Mandatory that you complete and hand in the
4th edition OEC student workbook, on the 14th of May. This will be checked off
as you arrive, and may help you if any discrepencies arise. It will also cover
the majority of the material on the test.
- All students must bring a 4th Edition OEC book to the review class.
NO EXCEPTIONS. You may borrow this book from a fellow
patroller, however it is recommended that you purchase your own. You may
purchase a copy at www.oeczone.com or if you know a member who will be willing
to purchase one for you at www.nsp.org This book has all the essential skills
sheets in the back of the book, which you will be tested on in your practical
stations.
- Show up with the course fee on the 14th of May at Big Boulder Ski Resort.
Follow signs for OEC Challenge in the parking lot. Remember Photo
Identification, Certification/CPR Cards, and Indicate affiliated patrol, also
remember course fee is due on this date.
